SERVICE OVERVIEW
Why do some companies and their leaders avoid implementing more efficient processes? Is it due to the illusion of saving time and money? Our certified process RAIDers help CEOs and leaders answer this question and more. Additionally, this subject is discussed in the thought-provoking book by Dr. Milton Mattox, the current president and CEO of the CEO Advisory Council.
Creating process structure in organizations is a bit of a “lost art.” Many leaders believe that there just isn’t enough time to spend on creating repeatable, measurable, flexible, and simple processes; neither do they believe that to do so is a good return on investment. Typically, today’s business focus is to get products and services to market as quickly as possible.
We partner with CEOs, leaders, and managers to review the company’s current business and technology processes to remove inefficiencies where applicable and it makes sense to do so. The results include operational savings that positively impact the bottom line.
Is It Time to RAID Your Business and Technology Processes?
It’s important to reduce processes down to their simplest form, but not to the point where they are no longer coherent. There are several process methodologies that describe multiple steps in order to execute the process. The more steps there are, the more there is for team members to remember. The more things for team members to remember, the more likely they are to forget them, and, in turn, the higher the probability they won’t use the process.
The simplest form of any process is when the process is described as:
- Input
- Process
- Output
This tends to be too simple for most people because it has unknowns. The major unknown is the word “process” in the middle. People tend to want to know what the “process” is before they buy into this as the simplest form. People tend to shy away from unknowns. People also think the other two attributes, “input” and “output,” are unknown as well. This is a case where the process workflow, input->process->output, is simpler but has gone too far so it’s useless as a process (i.e., it is only useless in this example). If we take a look at describing or briefly defining these three components, one way to do that is:
- Input – When something is RECEIVED. Here, “something” is anything we wish to process.
- Process – This can be a two-step procedure at a high level where we ANALYZE the “something” and then IMPLEMENT it.
- Output – Where the results of our analysis and implementation are DELIVERED.
As noted, there are four components to better describe input->process->output. The four components are:
- Receive
- Analyze
- Implement
- Deliver
The process workflow above is in its simplest form without being too simple. In other words, the process is to Receive something, Analyze it, Implement something based on your analysis, and then Deliver the results of your implementation.
As aforementioned, we call this process workflow RAID which is the first letter of the four components Receive->Analyze->Implement->Deliver. Our analysts, whom we call RAIDers, review your company’s processes through the lens of the RAID workflow to uncover laden inefficiencies.
Organizations that go through the RAID review end up with processes that have four key attributes:
- Repeatability
- Measurability
- Flexibility
- Simplicity
Through years of experience, members of the CEO Advisory Council found that implementing process improvements is more of an art than a science because it is unwise to ignore the human aspects of process improvement initiatives. This is why it is so important to leverage experienced process analysts who will objectively review your processes and quickly find inefficiencies.
